Los Angeles to Louisiana!

08.24.07

After a whirlwind trip trip to Los Angeles last weekend (we'll tell you more about it when we can, wink ;) we ladies are busy recovering from jet lag, working hard on getting down some new tunes, (originals and some surprising covers) and gearing up to hit the road next Wednesday for a run of New Orleans, Birmingham Alabama and Atlanta. Wahoo! A fun juicy tidbit: Larry Bagby, who is the lead guy in the band supporting us at Smith's Olde Bar in Atlanta, played Johnny Cash/Joaquin Phoenix's bass player in the movie 'Walk the Line". So basically, we're hanging out with movie stars ;) We're also really hoping that our new rock star friends we met in L.A. from the band Red Halo (these guys are seriously hot and they even wear mascara AND eyeliner which really does it for jane) come out and support us when we play their hometown of Birmingham. One last and most important detail: we're celebrating the fact that after almost a year of those haunting, heart-pulling fiddle lines laced with the mamas' music, Anna Bauman-Smith is on-board for full-time Mama status. So look out, there are 4 mamas to be reckoned with now! We love you all, thank you endlessly for listening, coming out and caring, and will keep you posted. xoxo jane, molly, eleanor and anna

Festival Frenzy

07.29.07

We just got home from a weekend of festivals -Floydfest in the lovely Blue Ridge of VA and BeleChere in our own hometown of Ashevegas. We met lots of new folks at Floydfest and sang through a thunderstorm! The crowd wasn't put-off, though. We had lots of fans/dancers in the rain for our last song, a cover of Bob Dylan's "wagon wheel", including Molly's two cousins Kaelie and Hannah!

Bele Chere was a great homecoming for us - the sunshine came out just a few minutes after our set began.

Well ya'll, the dates keep rolling in on the calendar, so we look forward to seeing you soon!

Love,
the Mamas

Beach House Mamas!

07.03.07

Sorry it has been so long since we've updated y'all on our happenings! We've been busy...Our late spring and summer calendar have been full of some local shows and lots of weekend tours, with much quality time spent in miss Eleanor's trusty subaru reading guilty pleasure tabloid trash, rocking out to Justin Timberlake, writing set lists, practicing harmonies, and eating copious amounts of kettle chips. We have happily discovered they are the only food in common between the vegan, omnivore, vegeterian and gluten-free mamas! We had a wonderful wet time serenading the rowdy raft guides' 'beer olympics' at the Bean Trees Cafe and white water rafting on the Pigeon River a few weekends ago...it landmarked the first time a bhm show got so drunkenly wild that PUKE actually had to be hosed off the deck! (not ours, of course). So much fun! We also played a string of fun private parties in Molly's hometown of Atlanta where we got to visit her awesome family, sleep in real beds and perfect the art of carrying our own PA equipment in high heels. Last weekend brought us to the beautiful beaches of St. Simons Island, GA where we spent a day soaking up the sun and waves (Jane and Molly also had the paddle ball 2007 championships that ended abruptly when jane took an over-zealous sand-dive and skinned off part of her behind. We played under the full moon there, at the Southern Soul Barbeque where I hear they make a killer...um, anything with pork. We'll be posting some fun beach pics on the site real soon! The rest of the summer will bring us to Floyd Fest in VA (so exciting to play such a large festival!), home to Asheville for Bele Cher, to Knoxville supporting the Bottle Rockets, and to New Orleans to play at the Ogden museum (holy cow). We continue to add more fall dates, so keep on checking! In other news, we are writing and working on a lot of new songs, and the word on the street is that we'll begin recording album #2 by November. We are still shopping around for where that recording will take place. We are also working on a new and improved, way more fun web site, so stay tuned. Thank you so much for your on-going support. It means everything. Big Love.
--Jane, Molly and Eleanor

After the Tour

04.03.07

We played three shows in three nights in three cities last weekend! First was at the Boone Saloon in Boone NC, and second at Hideaway BBQ in Raleigh NC supporting the Biscuit Burners. Eleanor's family and some old friends joined us in Raleigh for a rauckous night celebrating Eleanor's birthday! The last night we were in Atlanta at AZUL playing under the stars. During the set break, we looked out over the surrounding buildings and saw that a building was on fire! The smoke came in, but after a few minutes the firemen were able to get the flames down and we resumed playing. What a finale!!! Members of the audience said to us, "You're so hot, you're on fire!"

It's back home for now. For those of you in Raleigh, we hope to see you April 14th at the Lincoln Theater!

Practice Practice

06.11.07

We are getting all geared up for our Asheville show this Friday, March 16th at the Grey Eagle. We have special guests on lap steel and mandolin, not to mention that we will be backed up by Miss Anna Baumann-Smith on fiddle and the Mama's boys- Sean and Dave- on upright bass and drums. Tennessee Hollow opens for us!

Jane sings with Malcombe Holcombe(!) and our show March 16th at the Grey Eagle

02.26.07

Yesterday we played a few songs to benefit for Room at the Inn & AHOPE, a day shelter in Asheville. There was a fabulous lineup of local Ashevillian acts done by producer/musician Aaron Price that included Malcombe Holcombe, Woody Wood, Kellin Watson, Cary Fridley, and the Grit Pixies, just to name a few. Jane got up and sang "A Far Cry From Here" while Malcombe played, and it was heartbreakingly beautiful. Anyhow, we are getting geared up for our big show at the Grey Eagle on Friday, March 16th. We will have special guests on lap steel and mandolin! Look forward to seeing you there.

Happy February

02.04.07

Thanks to those who came out to the Grey Eagle last night. It was fun opening for Barefoot Manner and despite the cold, some certainly did have bare feet! Otherwise, we are getting ready for a steady lineup of gigs this year, so keep your eyes peeled for more show dates, especially out of town!

Cheers,
The BHM

Falcon Feathers & Happy Holidays

12.17.06

After a great show lasting until the late night on Thursday at the Town Pump, a fellow named JoSH (not John!) gave me (Molly) a falcon feather because he said I sang like a bird. In the spirit of seeing one another for who we really are, I just want to say this: We couldn't sing like birds without all of the support we have gotten from you! Also, thank you for all the feedback on our album. It is invaluable. We hope to see you soon, and Happy Holidays!

We are making some serious progress on our recording! At the last recording session all of the Mamas --including Sean Lallouz on bass and David Mack on drums-- were present, and we had an unexpectedly great time laying down tracks.

Also, last night was a great show at Ed Boudreaux's in Asheville. Eleanor's mother Jane was there, as well as old friends and many new faces. Thanks to those who came out, and we look forward to seeing you soon!

Our next gig is this Friday, February 24th at The Grey Eagle in Asheville opening up for Menage. Hope to see you there.

After a fun and chilly night playing by a fireside for a lovely oyster roast, we went to the Evening Muse in Charlotte and were asked to come again. We went out on the town after the show and had a mighty good time!
We thank The Carburetors for the gig at the Muse.
